Brick Freex Strategy: Combos, Golden Pieces and Speed

How scoring works in Brick Freex, why back-to-back line clears beat four-line clears, and how to use golden pieces, Brick Breakers and the Mega Stud.

How points work

Clearing lines scores 100 for one, 200 for two, 500 for three and 800 for four, multiplied by your level. On top of that, every drop that clears at least one line right after another clearing drop extends a combo chain, and the points of that clear are multiplied by the length of the chain, up to x10. A drop that clears nothing resets the chain.

Why combos beat four-line clears

At level 1, one four-line clear is worth 800. Five single-line clears on five drops in a row are worth 100 + 200 + 300 + 400 + 500, which is 1,500. So the goal in Brick Freex is a board where most pieces complete a line, rather than a tall stack waiting for one long piece.

Four-line clears still have a use: each one triggers a speed freeze that slows the drop back down for five seconds. At high levels, that breathing room is worth more than the points.

Setting up a chain

Keep the stack low and flat, and leave a narrow well, three or four columns wide, on one side. When the rows next to the well are almost full, small pieces dropped into it finish one line each, and you can feed it one drop at a time. The ghost outline shows where the current piece will land and the preview shows the next one, so plan both drops together. There is no hold slot, which is why the preview matters so much.

Golden pieces

About one piece in twenty spawns golden. When it lands, it clears every row it occupies, full or not, for 150 points per row. Those points do not scale with your level, but two details make golden pieces better than they look: they do not break your combo chain, and a golden long piece dropped vertically clears four rows at once. Use them on the messiest part of the stack, where rows are full of holes you could not fill otherwise.

Brick Breakers and the Mega Stud

Every five cleared lines, a Brick Breaker smashes one random column. You cannot pick the column, so treat it as a free bonus rather than a tool. Every 20 lines, the next piece is a single Mega Stud that destroys a 3 by 3 area where it lands. Drop it straight onto a buried hole.

Speed

Your level goes up every ten lines. At level 1 a piece drops one row per second, each level takes 0.07 seconds off that, and the speed tops out at level 15. From around level 10, decide where the next piece goes while the current one is still falling.
